Roger Federer
Roger Federer is a professional tennis player from Switzerland that’s dominated the sport for the last 10 years. Despite many challengers to his number one crown, including Rafael Nadal and Andy Murry, he’s still rated the best tennis player in the world by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He’s now held the number one slot for a record amount of consecutive weeks, and is rated the best player ever to hold a tennis racquet by many past and present players.
To date Federer has won a massive 16 Grand Slam titles, more than any other male player, and having recently landed the Australian Open he doesn’t look like letting up just yet. He is also one of only six male players to have landed the career Grand Slam and one of only three (with Rod Laver and Andre Agassi) since the start of the Open Era. Add in that he’s also one of only two male players (other Andre Agassi) in history to have won all four Grand Slam titles on three different surfaces (clay, grass and hard courts) then it’s easy to see by many bill him as the greatest ever.
Roger Federer has currently appeared in 22 career Grand Slam finals, while he also holds the record of appearing in 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals. Away from the main four events Federer has won four ATP World Tiur Finals and to date 16 ATP Masters Series events – one fewer than all time winner Andre Agassi. He’s also won an Olympic Gold Medal in doubles, teaming up with fellow Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka at the 2008 Games.
